Security is a concern for any people. Ben Franklin once said, "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty nor security, and will lose both." This still holds true. If we compromise on our principles, it means we have already lost.
We need new civil servants at every level of
government from city to county to State to national. We need men and women who respect the Constitution and individual rights. The current
office-holders believe that they know better how to run your lives than
do you! This is ridiculous. The current greatest threat to our
security is sitting in Washington.
The Founders never anticipated that we world have a standing Army, nor perpetual war and military actions. A standing army needs two very important things. 1.) Paid. 2.) Something to do.
THe result of these two things is that t he US has not seen one day of peace in over twenty years. Twenty years! Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) thinks the solution is to re-institute the military draft for all men and women between the ages of 18 and 42.
The interesting thing is this: when a War is necessary and the cause just, there are no shortage of soldiers. If another country were to invade the US, do you think we would have a hard time finding men and women to carry rifles to protect our country and our Constitution? I think not.
The problem is that the good people of these united States do not support imperialistic wars for profit. It is not a draft which is necessary, but a change in US foreign policy.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringes."
The Founders knew that if a cause was just, the people would muster to turn back tides of tyranny.
That is what we need today. We need the governor to exercise his authority under WV Code §15-4-1 to muster and organize the State Guard of West Virginia. We need well-trained and prepared Citizens to serve in the militia to protect our homes, our communities, our State, and our Constitution.
Read these selections of WV Law to see how this is already possible and legal:
WV Code §15-1-1. Definitions. [LINK]
"(a) The term "military forces of the state" shall mean the organized militia, the state retired list, the honorary militia and the state guard, and all other components of the militia of the state which may hereafter be organized.
§15-1A-1. Department generally. [LINK]
"The adjutant general ...[is] ... charged with the organization, administration, operation and training, supply and discipline of the military forces of the state."
§15-4-1. Governor authorized to organize and maintain West Virginia state guard. [LINK]"[T]he governor is hereby authorized to organize and maintain within this state ... such military forces as the governor may deem necessary to defend this state..."
§15-5-19. Unorganized militia. [LINK]
"[T]he unorganized militia shall consist of all able-bodied men and women between the ages of sixteen and fifty."
We need a Constitutional, and lawful solution to the problems we face. This is not a magic bullet, but it is certainly as step in the right direction.
